3.4.11.1 Batter Breakline

Last Updated: 09 November 2016         For: OptiSurface Designer V2.5+

Overview:  Batter Breakline operation calculates a new breakline adjacent to the Reference breakline creating a sloped wall (batter) that lines up to a surface.  This is used to finalize drain channels or embankments.

Horizontal Offset
- offset distance from the center breakline or reference breakline.  E.g. If base is 15ft wide, offset distance is 7.5ft.

Define the Slope Ratios

  • Up 1v:h: - define h (horizontal) in the up slope ratio, ie if slope is 1:20 then insert 20
  • Down 1v:h: - define h (horizontal) in the down slope ratio, ie if slope is 1:20 then insert 20
  • Slope to Nearest - use if the length of breakline has some areas above and below the surface
  • Slope Up Only - use if breakline is below surface e.g drain channels
  • Slope Down Only - use if breakline is above surface e.g levees
Direction - refers to the 'Left' or 'Right' of the clicked breakline, usually best to select 'Both' then delete the unwanted batter.
Shoot Slope To - select the reference surface where the breakline will be shot from
Shot Interval - define interval between breakline points, use 5m or 15ft
Max Distance - define the maximum horizontal distance from the reference breakline the batter will shoot out to

Example:

1.  Draw the breakline.  Right click Proposed Topography under Project Explorer > Add Breakline.  This will serve as the Reference Breakline or Center Breakline.  Make sure there is enough slope (minimum of 0.05%) to allow water to drain out.

2.  Retriangulate Proposed Topogprahy without Breaklines to produce the reference surface.  Right click Proposed Topography under Project Explorer > Retriangulate > Without Breaklines.

3.  Right click breakline > Batter Breakline and define required parameters > OK.

4.  The batters will be calculated.  Delete the points caught between the batters using Polygon Delete.

5.  Retriangulate surface with Breaklines.  Right click Proposed Topography under Project Explorer > Retriangulate > With Breaklines.

6.  Recalculate Cut/Fill Map to reflect manual changes.  Right click Proposed Cut/Fill under Project Explorer > Recalculate Cut/Fill > Tick ON Rebalance and Tick OFF Adjust Breaklines > OK.
